How are sales of the game doing?
« on: March 03, 2011, 04:35:11 PM »
Just bought the game last night and I was really impressed.  I really like the sound effects and the interface - having been fiddling with AGS for years I know how much work must have gone into the drag and drop communicator scripting alone, not to mention the impressive combat mini-game!  I'm also happy to see AGS games getting lots of good press recently.  This is probably an annoying question for the game's author, but how are sales doing?  Minecraft actually posts them (not that you have to do that), but I would think that all the press has to be helping.  I hope things are going well and I'm looking forward to finishing the game. Good work.  ;D

I watched Dave at his GDC presentation for the Shivah and someone in the audiance asked that question and Dave just answered "good..." :D the guy was like "oh.. ok.." :D :D :D

I don't blame him if he doesn't want to share that information for various reasons, tho I hope he does as it would be very interesting to know.

You're right about the Minecraft guy he is in the Swedish newspapers all the time because of that, which really brings his games to a wider audience, but then again he really made news-worthy amount of money and I'm not sure AGS adventure-games has potential to come near that, I mean personally I can't play more than 10 mins of minecraft without dieing of boredom but I can still realize that non-story-games always seem to be the answer to profits.

But yeah I can imagine the GR sales must be pretty good, I mean personally I enjoy the blackwell games more (the puzzles there seems more about understanding the story and less about solving silly obsticles) but I cleverly see GR getting amazing coverage (#2 spot on metacritic, whereas Blackwell wasn't even on metacritic at all!) and being a more marketible game.

I don't care about hearing numbers sold, though I would like a general "this is how well it did" sort of post at some point down the road.  It's nice to know when an indie project is successful.

lol please tell me you're kidding :P what you are describing sounds like what Hollywood does for every single movie which is release a "news report" of how much a particular movie grossed which is their way of saying "we don't want to give you any information that could be useful in any way, but we want our title mentioned so here's our phony news!" :P

or like the current trend of developers making a post "my game X had lots of piracy" without giving any useful figure that could in any way be counted as a usefull.

While I never like to give out sales numbers, I did do a sort of sales prediction on my blog here. about a month ago.  The current sales are already above the predictions, so we're quite happy with how the game is selling.

Glad to hear it is a success so far... I wish you luck in even greater sales in the future, and for high sales of this game bleeding over into your other games.
