There are some spoilers below so I wouldn't read unless you've finished.
I've been playing adventure games since Zork I on my Apple //e. I just wanted to say I really enjoyed Gemini Rue, a very enjoyable, solid adventure especially considering its independent roots. It really proves that some of the best titles are coming from the independent scene. Great characters, story, music, loved the graphics.
Josh has a definite gift for story telling and I could tell he and I are on a similar wavelength considering two of his easter eggs highlight some of my favorite stories ever (Cowboy Bebop and Memento). I love the questions and discussion points posed by the storyline and I really enjoyed the story structure. It provides a nice punch to the gut when you realize that the separate storylines aren't happening at the same time. Very cool story structure that I don't believe has been done much before.
Having played hundreds of adventure games (probably almost every release), I often long to create my own story but don't have quite the gift of story telling that others do, including Josh. Great atmosphere, good dialogue, and characters that I would love to discover more about. This is the kind of creative storytelling I would love to see more of. I hope Josh creates another great story.
I play adventure games almost entirely for story and characters so even though I found some of the gameplay elements in Gemini Rue lacking, they didnt take away from the experience. The action sequences were a bit clunky but I like their inclusion because it added tension to the story. Some of the puzzles could have been a bit stronger - I wouldn't mind more logic puzzles as long as they are integrated smartly into the storyline.
Anyhow, just wanted to express my praise for the game. I hope to see more. Congrats Josh on a great achievement. Would love to hear what other stories you are a fan of since you obviously love Cowboy Bebop and Memento, two of my most favorite things. Please share
