EEC cyrillic font problem
« on: December 08, 2010, 10:03:41 AM »
I bought this game from BFG (i knew what the game was about so i used credit on it without trying) and it doesn't start because my Windows account contains cyrillic characters. Unfortunately I cannot reinstall my windows because that deletes all information on my computer (that's how the company i bought computer from made it) and playing on another account is not convenient.
Any solutions?
Or could you at least tell me the location where the game stores save files?

Thank you.

Hi Akari.  Sorry you are having trouble.  I'm forwarding your post to the guy who programmed the game.  He wrote several games using the ECC engine so hopefully he's encountered this problem before and knows how to fix it.  I'll let you know what he says.

Hi Akari.  Me again.  I contacted the programmer and he's just as mystified as I am.  We think it is a problem with the engine that all PlayFirst games run on (called the Playground SDK), so it would be best to contact PlayFirst or BFG tech support, as they know more about how it works than we do.  Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

Hello,

Thank you very much for replying. I actually encountered this cyrillic issue before in Aveyond 2 and 3 but luckily the guys on their forum made a fix for me. It worked in the following way: the game originally created a save game folder in the AppData folder but because the path to Appdata contains Cyrillic letters (my profile username) the game couldn't reach it so it refused to start. They fixed it for me by giving me some file which changed the path and i could myself write where I want to save my games, for example in C:\Saved Games. Once I did this the problem was fixed.
I was wondering if there is any way to change this save games path for EEC as well.  Unfortunately I am not good enough at it and I cannot find where I can change this.

P.S.I did send a ticket to BFG as well but so far they have not been useful, so I am trying to get help from whenever I can.

Aha.  If that's the case, it sounds like a problem with the core Playfirst engine and someone at PlayFirst would definitely be able to help you.  Have you tried writing them?  I'm not sure if BFG would be familiar enough with the engine, even though they are selling all of PF's games now.

Well I understand that you cannot help but I still would like to mention that in my %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Playfirst I have a whole bunch of games developed by Playfirst all of which I bought, some of them I got from PlayFirst before they merged with BigFish, some of them I bought from BigFish. They also were developed on Playground SDK (I checked credits and website). That would be Dream Chronicles 3, Dream Chronicles 4, Wedding Dash 3, Wedding Dash 4, Fashion Dash, Fifth Gate, The Palace Builder, Chocolatier 3, and Emerald City Confidential. Out of all these PF games ECC is the only game that doesn't work.
But anyway, I guess the support will also tell me they have no idea or suggest I reinstall the game 100 times, since I am probably the only Cyrillic user client on their site.

Hi Akari.  Did you ever contact PlayFirst?  Were they able to help you?
