Love It!

Technobabylon is a terrific game.  It combines a compelling story, interesting characters, cool sci-fi, good puzzles that actually fit into the context of the story, excellent art (thanks Ben), and great dialogue and voice acting.  The best adventure games are now coming from Wadjet Eye and I look forward to Shardlight.

I didn't find the puzzles terrific. Some of them felt a bit grinding, and the game lacks a hinting system when you're stuck (I had to resort to a walkthrough a couple of times).

I finished the game and I still think it rocks.
But I do have a couple of issues with it.
SPOILER ALERT!!

The game gave you a choice of villains and you could choose your ending depending on who you thought was the greater evil.  I prefer it when the situation is more clear-cut.

Also I felt that the game relied too much on a gay stereotype, which became tedious after awhile.

I admit, I relish a bit of ambiguity in my videogame morality. Rather than the game flat out telling you 'You've done a Good Thing!' or 'You've done a Bad Thing!' you get to decide for yourself just how good or bad you've decided to be.

If we're thinking of the same character, I think it was more a British stereotype than a gay one (though the two have often been conflated and confused, and he does appear to be both), but I agree it got quite old, quite fast. Possibly the most irritating part of the game. [MILD SPOILERS] I comforted myself by theorizing that it was an intentional programming quirk, so that people could tell him apart from the others. Maybe each one has their own identifying verbal tic.

Well no, there is never even a point where they mention he's gay.

Don't think of him as that, think of him as the highly annoying sales rep. That's really what the character was.

Considering that he is a synthetic, whether or not his platform emulates sexuality is unknown. But the character is more a reference to actor Kenneth Williams (who was, by the way, gay).

You're right, Sslaxx.

That reminded me that I had this audio file of Abe doing various impersonations of Kenneth Williams to get into the role. :)

Ha, nice. Abe gets that from his burlesque shows obviously. So really is less a gay thing and more of a theater thing.

Not as such, but if Regis tries to find his off switch during the restaurant scene, he does seem awfully pleased and enthused about the sudden invasion of personal space. Perhaps he's just generally excitable...

ETA: The dialogue in question (after using the CI-Splitter on Stepford)

Stepford[startled]: Oh my, Dr Regis! How forward!!
Stepford[sly smile]: I had no idea you felt this way.
Regis[perplexed]: Uh...
Stepford[still smiling]:We must discuss this later in private.
Regis[awkwardly]: ...I'm... just going to..go..uh...
Stepford[conspiratorially]: Of course! Of course.
