Techobabylon Music Progress
« on: September 13, 2014, 04:49:40 PM »
Hi folks!

Just letting you know you can hear the tracks I do for Technobabylon as I finish them on my Soundcloud. Not all tracks will be published, but some.

Tracks:

Prisoner of Consciousness: https://soundcloud.com/nathan-allen-pinard/wip-projectthingytrack1

TRANCE: https://soundcloud.com/nathan-allen-pinard/technobabylon-trance

If you wish to know anything about the music/sfx production, feel free to ask any questions you wish. As long as they aren't spoilers, I can answer them :)

These are great! I find Prisoner of Consciousness is a particularly chilling atmosphere.

I'm curious if there is a rough percentage you could give of how much of this project is done with instrument samples/software synths vs a more sound-designy/post-productiony sort of approach? If that makes any sense at all? I felt like these tunes and your work for Gemini Rue seemed to have both pretty well integrated in terms of having a lot of texture and some memorable melodic/harmonic writing as well.

To be honest, it's never easy to tell what or how much will be done.

Right now it's not even 10% music done. But when this is done it'll be a full length album for sure.

Most of the music will be done Nov-Dec, and then wrapping up sound design in Jan. But that can change depending on progress.

As far as VIs? 100% on both of those tracks are using virtual instruments. This soundtrack will probably be using 100% software/samples. I may have a few surprises, but I'm not sure if I will be able to put them in.

Gemini Rue used 100% software for music. Nothing in that score was real. Unless you count the EWI I played which did have a synth on it that I recorded via audio input. That track was the Bonus Credits theme.

Oh yes, that already sound fantastic. I am a huge fan of the Gemini Rue soundtrack and really can't wait to finally see, hear and play the Technobabylon remake. Will definitely preorder it right away, if that's actually possible.

I am not a music person myself, so I can't really explain, why I liked the Gemini Rue soundtrack (and now that Prisoner of Consciousness track) so much. It just created this moody, dreadful sci-fi atmosphere, whilst still being rooted on earth due to the more traditional instruments like Piano or Saxophone, if I heard that correctly. Point is, it's the perfect mix of "classical" and "spacey".
