Bug reports for Blackwell Epiphany
« on: April 25, 2014, 08:10:35 AM »
Greetings, fellow bestowers.

Either I suck at searching the forums or noone yet created a bug thread.
Anyway, the main idea is to spill whichever bugs you found here, discuss those and, hopefully, find a way to fix them. Or at least hope that developer will fix it.

Spoiler alert. (duh)

Here is a list of bugs known by me.

1) Steam achievement bug "Laying it bear".
It has no image and, currently, it is using the last achieved achievement's image to represent itself.

2) Steam achievement bug "Softly Softly"
Steam users report that this achievement is un-achievieble.
Also, the number of footprints differs from the achievement in-game.

3) Steam achievement bug "Snow plow"
No one achieved it yet and no one has any idea what it is. Somebody's got to it, but it would be probably wise thing to check if it is actually working.

4) Snow texture bug at cemetary
If you walk very-very close to Peter's grave while it is still unrevealed, Rose's legs will glitch inside the snow.

5) Peter's sister's bug.
It is possible to find out who she is without using the Case # anyhow.
But, you can also find out this Case # *after* revealing her identity.
After that - this note will just haunt your phone untill the phone bestowers comes to release it.

6) A protective's circle bug
When you draw a circle with chalk outside the building and then examine it, Joey remarks that this circle was created by Magdelene using some of her essence. Which is obvious lie.

Didn't notice this thread and it makes more sense to post about post-release bugs here anyway, so:

With Joey inside the police station and Rosa (outside) saying something to Durkin, switch back to Rosa while she's still speaking. Whatever she is saying will carry on.

Also, in the Pierro household: the fridge is described as humming. How, when there is no power?

After you've acquired the Parental Eye software but not before installing it, on the main location screen for Emil's office - use the software on the computer from here and Rosa will say "It's already installed." - and the software will show up on the computer as if it's always been there.

I found a bug late in the game, where when you talk to the reporter in the newsroom, the option to end the conversation will disappear.

I made a few threads on the Steam discussion page, but:

Shift Tabbing to view the overlay/achievement list locks the game up

Also my game seems to be running way too fast, animations are sped up and dialogue is being overlapped.
EDIT: Nevermind, didn't notice the "Speed" setting in the options menu which seems to have been defaulted rather high.  ::)

A found another bug ish

When you talk to heather just after you find out where she is and ask her about the ghost of the roof joey will say do you know a Tanya Corsey?" even if you don't know that the ghost is called Tanya

Another bug is with the dialogue box with Jim about Tanya and Heather being the same. When I clicked on the question mark one it broke (I could only check my notes)

I had a rather weird bug or something of the sort that made me get stuck for a while (having to exit my game)

It's late-ish in the game, so spoilers-

When I got to the newsroom and confronted the guy about Tanya and Heather, once I got the three dialogue options that all essentially said they were the same person...
The dialogue wouldn't continue, and all I could do was ask the guy stuff from my notebook- I couldn't even exit the dialogue with him, as there were no other options besides opening the notebook.
For some reason, though, I went through and combined every notebook option together once I'd loaded a save from that part of the game, and once I confronted the guy again, the dialogue continued after the place where I'd gotten stuck. So... I'm not sure what went wrong. Maybe I made some sort of logic leap?

End Spoilers

For the newsroom bug, I think the way around it is to exit out of the dialogue with Jim before choosing "Jim, I know everything." If I just clicked through without selecting "leave him" before that, it wouldn't work (probably because in the middle of that conversation there is no option to leave, so when the bug happens, the only option is the notes)

I think the snow plow achievement is probably to make a lot of footprints in the snow. That triggered a commentary from Dave about it.

I'm getting a crash at SPOILER the Wired Abacus, when I have Joey blow on the mouse, the game closes out and I get the following pop-up:

Quote
An error has occurred.  Please contact the game author for support, as this is likely to be a scripting error and not a bug in AGS. (ACI version 3.3.0.1148)

in "inventory.asc", line 252
from "inventory.asc", line 1163
from "GlobalScript.asc", line 1218

Error: SetObjectTransparent: transparency value must be between 0 and 100

I've tried changing some of the graphical options since transparency is mentioned but no luck.

Not sure what the usual process is regarding bugs on your forums, so I'm just leaving it here since it concerns two separate games:

In Blackwell Epiphany:
This one could be intentional.
After using Joey's tie on the chalk circle in the final two rooms, when the tie goes back into the inventory it has the name "totem."

In Blackwell Unbound:
Also, a long standing bug in Blackwell Unbound - there's a classic index out of bounds error with Lauren's notebook. It's avoidable but can be easily triggered accidentally.
Reproducable by doing the following:
Click and hold the mouse down on any item in the notebook. Move the mouse over an empty space in the notebook (which later items would fill up), still within the boundaries of the list.
Release the mouse.

The game will crash with the following message:

I'm not familiar with AGS specifically but presumably its an issue with testing whether the mouse is down instead instead of a full click.

Enjoyed the series, looking forward to playing your future games.

The snow plow achievement is possible, I have done it.  If it is what I think it was that I did, it is a bit tedious to obtain.

I thought I'd post about a bug someone else encountered and posted about on the Steam forums because it seemed like a pretty big one:

Original poster: Thalion @ http://steamcommunity.com/app/236930/discussions/0/558754260492939175/

BUG: walking with Kendra
If you ask Kendra to follow you  before you unlock the right location  you get stuck on the map. She won't let you go to any other location, and you can't use your inventory to unlock the requiered place, so there's no way out.

Wait...how'd you manage that?

You can't get Kenda to come with you unless you read the Trollgate chat logs, find her mother, and learn the prunes and danish password. Logging into Trollgate requires you to reset her password, which requires the spybot software to be on her dad's computer in his work office, which you can't get into without visiting his house and getting the code to his office door from the picture

Then something else went wrong:
the office door was open, I didn't have to find any code: I just clicked on it and walked in. I just thought the guy forgot to close the door and his house was a sad location where the wasn't anything useful.

Please, say us what you did to obtain this achievement.

It's an achievement and it takes work to get; I'm not going to spoil the achievement. But I can hint at it.  Obviously it has to do with the snow.  It is somewhat tedious like the achievement to blow (on) everyone and you can't trigger the achievement until almost the end of the game.  It is obtainable, there is no bug related to this achievement.   But here's proof that I did get it: http://steamcommunity.com/id/theinfinitelyprolonged/stats/236930/achievements/

Please, say us what you did to obtain this achievement.

I just got it and I think I know what you have to do.

Spoilers:
You need to let Rosa walk around in every outside area with snow 'til Joey starts talking to her. The achievement unlocked for me at the cemetery.

So yeah, Snow Plow ain't bugged. :)
