Next Blackwell game: Blackwell Epiphany
« on: February 20, 2013, 12:35:42 PM »
It's no secret that I'm working on it, so I figure it's time to give out the juicy details:

Wadjet Eye Games presents:
Blackwell Epiphany
(Blackwell #5)

The story
A dead man's soul cries out against the force of a ferocious blizzard. He cries for help. He cries for answers. Then he screams as he is torn apart like damp tissue paper.

This wasn't the first time, and it won't be the last.

The police are powerless to stop it, so the duty falls to the only who can. What force could be so powerful - and so malevolent - that it would destroy the very core of a life in order to get what it wants?

Rosa Blackwell and Joey Mallone mean to find out, even if it means risking themselves in the process.

Screenshots

Rosa fortifies herself with coffee. The dead don't sleep and neither can she.

Joey talks to a ghost in an abandoned building.

The Blackwell homestead - now seen from a different angle!

Sam Durkin returns.

The void between worlds.

Team
Written and programmed by: Dave Gilbert
Background and Character sprites by: Ben Chandler (ben304)
Music by: Thomas Regin

Also, Abe Goldfarb and Rebecca Whittaker both return as Joey and Rosa.

Estimated release
Fall 2013

Looking great!

I've been enjoying digging into the Ben Chandler gameography... (http://ben304.blogspot.com.au/)

Finally some news about Epiphany! ...and there was much rejoicing. Yaaaay!

-Looking forward to see the new footprint-mechanic in action.
-Oh no! The Eleven Foundation have been at it again!
-Love the new angle of Rosa's appartment. Great way of mixing it up!
-Another apperence of Durkin. Maybe we finally will get a Rabbi Stone cameo as well?
-She saved the ghost! Spoiler! Now this game is ruined for me...

It looks great so far. Also, where have I heard about Ben Chandler before? In your commentary tracks maybe?...

Ben did the sprites in Deception, so Dave probably talked about him a bit there.

Glad to hear the 5th one is on its way, no matter how long the wait from now. Deception's ending just screamed of a sequel, even though some people thought it was the last of the series.

I'm looking forward to the new weather change. Placing this game in a wintery environment not only gives it diversity from the other 4 installments, but the prospect of a haunting during holiday season gives it a new hopeful and yet tragic light - hopeful in the idea of miracle season and tragic because of the obvious events that take place. Wonder if Rosa will ever find peace of heart.

Also, the angle on Rosa's apartment made me believe she was in a different room altogether at first. It's nice to be able to see all the touches we couldn't before. Nice to hear Abe and Rebecca both return in their roles. They're doing a great job and especially Joey. I just love the way he's being interpreted. They get me connected even more with the story.

Sweet! So we wil have a ghost killer on the loos, pretty new backgrounds, a winter scenery, a new view of Rosa's appartment (with a very *interesting* movie poster ;) ) and last but not least, a new chapter on my favorite adventure series

We're quite a ways from needing testers yet. But I'll be asking for them in the usual places (facebook, twitter) when the time comes.

I would love to help with the testing, though won't know how time management would be at that point. It is kind of my day job in real life xD

I'm curious, how long does it take to write the story for a game and do you type it as a script or different system?

The Blackwell homestead - now seen from a different angle!

Well now, that wouldn't happen to be a poster from Frank Lyons' movie on Rosa's wall would it?  :)

And the Joe Gould painting on the wall! The "real life" painting was taken down from its place in the Minetta. Nobody there seems to know where it is now, so I've decided that Rosa has it.

Ooh, new angle! I guess we won't be using the kitchen or TV in this one.

Ooh, snow! Very underused in any New York setting. I'm kind of hoping this isn't around Christmas, though: snow is a torment for 3-4 months of the year, not just December.

Not too much to go on yet, just enough to tease us a little. And teased we are! Hope to hear more soon!

It is possible it's not around December, but it won't change the game for me one bit. I don't about other places, but around here it usually begins snowing late November/early December and they immediately relate it to the holidays. Winters haven't been as white as a couple of years ago.

Heh heh heh. "Duty." /Five-year old mode: Off

But seriously? Awesome, I can't wait. I love the mythology you've built around the Blackwell series. Every time I think you've done everything with the concept, you go and throw me a total curveball.

Can't wait to see what curveballs you throw at the mythology this time.
It's a surreal feeling, but my first novel is now available to buy at Amazon. Go look for The City of Smoke & Mirrors by Nick Piers.
