Game crash in Metropol
« on: December 13, 2012, 11:55:08 AM »
Hello,

I’d like to report a problem;
after a few  minutes of gameplay in Metropol, I always receive an error-message:

Quote
Adventure Game Studio

An error has occurred. Please contact the game autor for support, as this is likely to be a scripting error and not a bug in AGS. (ACI version 3.21.1115)
in “PlayHint.asc”,line 2111
from “PlayHint.asc”, line 2763
from “PlayHint.asc”, line 3106
from “NewCommands.asc”, line 7699
Error: FaceCharacter: characters are in different rooms
I'm running WinXP (32-bit) on an Intel dual CPU (1,60 GHz) with 2 GB RAM.
Please help.

Very bizarre.  This is an old glitch -- and in that sense known, but one which we thought was resolved in beta.  Are you playing a WEG direct download, a GOG version, or a Steam version?  (Or, dare I ask, one from "some other source"?)

After pre-ordering the game, I received a mail from "BMT Micro Orders" with 3 download-links (= WEG direct download). I simply picked the first link and downloaded the game. The game worked well until Metropol...

Yes, this is a Metropol-specific glitch.  But it's supposed to be resolved, and I haven't heard anyone else complaining of it.  Out of curiosity, when did you download it?

Date of Download is Dec. the 6th...

*edit*
I tried the second link to download the setup-exe. After re-installation the game seems to work.
Probably the download-link, I used in first place, still contains an "older" version of the game.

Excellent!  Let us know if it crops up again and we'll try stronger medicine!

I have started getting an almost similar error. It's all the same except instead of
Quote
“PlayHint.asc”,line 2111
it says:
Quote
“PlayHint.asc”,line 2102

I also did not start getting that error until later: I have got all code parts except Memorious's part, and I'm trying to decipher the "Redline" entry.

You say reinstalling fixes the problem, but won't that mean I have to replay the whole game? Won't it remove my saves?

I'm running the steam version.

Savegames will always work between versions of primordia unless said so.
