Please help, scripting error

I just got the game on steam as a birthday present, running it on windows 7...

really loving it so far, everything was working fine until I got to a point in the game where an event is triggered and the game crashes. I get this dialogue box:

An error has occurred. Please contact the game author for support, as this is likely to be a scripting error and not a bug in AGS. (ACI version 3.21.1115)

Error: AnimateCharacter: invalid loop number specified

The part of the game where this happens is right after I open the journal and the detective walks into the room.

This bug happens if you switch characters during the diary-opening puzzle. So if you reload your autosave and avoid doing that, you should be fine.
