Do you have a "Forever" game?
« on: July 14, 2012, 10:25:29 AM »
The board's died down since Resonance's release and I thought to try to liven it up a bit. ;D

I didn't know what to call this, so I called it a "forever" game.
It's a game you always go back to, and possibly play into the early hours because you lose track of time.
It's a game you go back to after playing and finishing some new games you got. Even when the new games have replay value, and you replay them, this game is sitting on your shelf, most likely still installed on your computer, waiting for you to come back to it.
It's a game that you don't know where a good save point is, just like a good book.
It will always be your favorite game of all time.

Yes, I might be weird, but who isn't. :P
For me, my forever game is The Sims. It's a game I got hooked on back in 2000, shortly after it's first release. It's the first game I install on a new computer, and I have multiple backups, even though it's fun to start over.

Do you have a Forever game and what is it?

I hate real life violence, but people can really stress me out sometimes. That's why I always keep Postal 2 installed on my laptop.

Haha, so you go shoot people to go chill. That's cool. Thanks for sharing. :)

I sometimes kill townie Sims or Sims I dislike, lol.

Lol, I had to ask my husband what the game was, so that was the shortest part I got from it. :)

I'll sometimes pop in Prototype and fly around virtual New York... which is weird, considering I *live* here. Although I can't run up the Empire State Building and fly off the top of it in real life, so that's something.

That sounds fun, and far different from your ordinary NY living, lol.

I went and watched a trailer to see what the game was. ;D

There are a few games I tend to pick up again once in a while:

- Unreal Tournament
- Age of Empires II
- Blackwell games
- Roller Coaster Tycoon

Used to also replay Commandos 1 & 2. But I've lost the original CDs and I don't think I'll get into it as much as I used to. The missons are rather time consuming while the above games are easy to pick up.

Hi I'm retro junkie.  I review games on my website and while i was getting all this started i found you guys.  I don't register to many boards, I think maby 4 in the past 2 years.  I had to join this one.  Anyway I'd have to say plants vs zombies, vampires vs zombies, and old Nintendo games.

Welcome to the site! Plants vs Zombies is so awesome. I've never heard of Vampires vs Zombies, I might have to look it up. :)
I'm getting very hooked on Chuzzle Deluxe. It's just so darn cute!

I'm a very big fan of adventure games. When I was a kid, my first adventure game is Kings quest 5. That beautiful graphics and interesting story really amazed me, although I'm not good at English at that time since I'm taiwanese. So when I grow up, I played that game again to know more about the story. I also keep playing other Sierra games like space quest, and Lucas arts games like monkey island, fate of Atlantic. They're really fun games and makes me keep playing when I feel bored!

Monkey Island 2: Le Chuck's Revenge. Because frankly adventure games never looked so good. I felt depressed finishing that game. It has that summer mood like no other game.

I guess I'll go for X-Com (the first one). It seems that no matter how much you play it each time it gives you something new. There is also Dwarf Fortress, but as of now I feel like I have explored the entire game already. Nothing really amuses me anymore in it, and I'll be needing some new content / improved performance to enjoy it again. It's also too easy when you learn it.

Anyone else have games like these?

For me it's Full Throttle, Curse of Monkey Island and Uncharted 2 and 3.

For me thats some RPGs or Adventures from my early years of gaming (gosh i sound old), games I love the story and just like to rehear/read the dialoges

Monkey Island 1+2, Day of the Tentacle, Final Fantasy 7, Breath of Fire

I tend not to replay newer games because modern consoles are such a hassle and these old games just start on a click/button.

I think the Blackwell Series is one of those game series i might replay again and again, or just play again in one go once the series is finished to see how the story developes and is connected.
