Anyone managed 340/340 yet? (POSSIBLE SPOILERS!)
« on: June 27, 2012, 01:57:30 PM »
If you have, could you post how many points I should have by certain points in the story, for example after the demo-sequence (before entering the hospital).

I've been trying to work towards this goal, and I'm 8 points short at the moment, with basically no idea where to find those points from. Please refrain from giving any specific locations or tips for getting those points, I'd like to find them myself... I'd just like a tiny nudge towards the right direction :)

SCORE CHECKPOINTS (prior to these areas) :

Juno labs: 62.
Anna's dream maze: 108.
Baseball field (4 characters acquired): 160.
Magnet puzzle: 229.
Edgetown (buddy cop): 270.
Final scene (last possible save): 316.
End: 340.

This is a great idea for a topic. Steam has a 100% Achiever's Club for the Blackwell Series. I'd love to see posts here for "This many points at this part of the game" so we can compare ours and add additions to help people achieve 340/340.

One thing I was wondering is that if you can do a certain thing to give you a hint to solve another puzzle, but don't have to (totally made up up example; give man a cigarette so he'll tell you to check the nearby dustbin, you check the dustbin and find the key you were looking for) and each of those stages give you points, if you do the final thing first, do you get all the points for that puzzle or just for the solving step? In other words, if a 5-step puzzle "block" has 10 points for solving it, can you get all 10 points by doing the finishing step first, or do you have to do each step to get 2 points each time?

I ask this because I noticed myself getting points for doing extra little things that helped me solve a puzzle but weren't necessary, and then other times I got a lot of points for just one thing, as if it was retroactively rewarding them.

I'm pretty sure the puzzles count points step-by-step, so if you skip one "optional" part of the puzzle and jump straight to the conclusion, you'll end up missing a bunch of points.

Well, to get this started, I started a new game and made a run all the way to the start of the second act (the first time when you get control of all four of the characters, and you're all standing on the baseball field during daytime), making sure I collect all the points I know of... I also found one extra points I hadn't yet found, so at the moment I should be standing at 333 points upon completion.

Beginning of Juno labs: 61 points.
Baseball field (4 characters acquired): 159 points.

I added the beginning of Juno labs as a segment, since it seems "act 1" is kind of a meaty chunk on it's own. If anyone has more points at these... points, let us know!

I'll start mine! I just started a new game and am at Juno Labs with Ed.

We can also modify our posts so the thread doesn't get too huge, if we find more points on another replay. That's what I plan on doing. Maybe posting my best stats later, I'll see.

Beginning of Juno Labs: 62 points
Baseball Field (4 chars.): 160

May the 340 Point Club begin, woot! Lol.

Edit: @ZX497 below this post: Great idea. If I edit my post, I'll do it like this. Is it too confusing to come in and read edits? Lol. What does Dave think of the editing idea to keep the thread shorter? I don't know how many people will post, but it was just an idea. :)

Yeah, editing posts is a good plan... otherwise this might eventually turn into an unreadable mess, lol. I'll try and keep up with what the others post too, and add a list to the very first message, so the information is readily available to all :)

Maybe adding messages to the post if we find a higher score would be good, so it doesn't get too hard for you to find and fix the highscores you put up top. Because when we add a new post there's an alert that you haven't read it, plus the post won't get lost downward for us to try to find.

Uhh, yeah, it's actually definitely easier for me to notice any updated scores if they're on a new message entirely, so I don't have to read every post written in this topic every time :P

Do it which ever way, though. If I don't notice a score change on an edited post, just put it on a new post so I'll definitely notice. I'll keep this updated!

I picked off a couple more points, 2 to 4. It's a bit hard to tell due to non-linearity of Act 2, and the fact I have no idea whether a few of those points are granted to you automatically later on or not. Anyhow...

Beginning of magnet puzzle: 228

EDIT:

Oh, Jazzy! You went to Cemetary to get 159? I didn't calculate those three points towards my 159, I literally made the cut the second I gained control of all four, without even talking to anyone. So, I think you're down three points at this point!

Waaahh! :'( And here I thought I'd found my missing 3 points. Thanks for pointing that out. It'll be details like this that'll help us get our final 340.

I've been making saves at specific times (Anna's duct-traveling memories, at Ozzy's, Ray and Anna at the hospital) so that maybe it helps to find missing points without going clear back, as it seems I now have to do. Thanks for the heads-up. Hopefully I can find them.

Damn, just got to the "Quartet" point and I only have 155. Looking at the previous posts, I think I might have already been a few points off when I got to Juno Labs. I think I'll do my 340 run on my next playthrough since this one is more of an achievement (other than the 340/340) and commentary focused one.

I did the electronic lock puzzle earlier, too. I didn't notice it before (I looked at the keypad but didn't realise you could remove its face with the screwdriver). It was a nice challenge and I had this nice algebraic way of figuring it out that was pretty fulfilling. What other similar games have that kind of maths or technical puzzles?

I don't remember if it gave points, but I also solved Morales' journal here, too. I was trying to do everything I could to get all my points.

I'm trying to get some more achievements, do commentary, and collect points at the same time, lol. Multi-tasker. :)

Yeah, Morales' journal gives 10 points (iirc) when completed. I usually do it as soon as possible, which at earliest means when you gain control of everyone.

Well that means I have 165 at the point when you have 4 characters, then. I'll just decode it now to see if that's the case.

Edit
Yep, 165. I haven't left the baseball field yet or done anything but decode the journal.

That counts towards the next section, Tropxe, since you already have all four by the time you decode it. I'd have 169 if I'd count it in.
