Why Can't I Quit You?
« on: June 16, 2012, 10:02:15 PM »
Seriously.

Now granted, I'm on an unsupported platform running the demo in emulation, so I totally understand that I'm beholden to your generosity.  I also refuse to pay for a game that I'm going to be running in emulation before I run the demo to get an idea if it will work.  Gemini Rue and the Blackwell Bundle (was Deception part of that?  Well, it runs, too) all run fine.

That said, in Resonance, I cannot move the mouse out of the lower right hand quarter of the Resonance screen.  At first I wondered if this were a designed limitation, until I realized I could not reach the yes option for quit.

I literally cannot quit playing this game.

(Which is too bad, I thought it looked interesting with some fun game mechanics.)

Some details: OS X Lion running Wineskin 2.5.5 with WS9Engine 1.5.6 as either XP or Win7

UPDATE: WS9Engine 1.5.6NoXInput2 works.

This isn't an ideal fix, but do you have full access when you check the menu? Open up a save game, press the red button in the upper-left corner, then choose to exit/quit. It might be a solution until proper tech support can come by.

That wouldn't have worked.  No save games, and I couldn't get to the upper left corner.  But WS9Engine 1.5.6NoXInput2 works, so I'm gonna preorder, as I really like how this game is going.

Obviously I am not qualified to troubleshoot this problem (I don't even own a Mac!) but I posted on twitter asking if anyone was successful in getting the game to run under Mac emulation and if they could drop by the forum to help out. Hopefully someone will answer the call.

Sorry about this!

You are too kind, Dave.

Actually, in this case, you probably are too kind.  The whole thing looks to be caused by my eagerness in getting my hands on a copy of Resonance and trying out the whole Memory Inventory concept.

It appears that there is a multipointer mouse library in OS X called XInput2 that doesn't play well with Wine (the emulation software), and a lot of people are having problems with some other software (like Skyrim and CounterStrike).  The particular implementation of Wine that I'm running even includes a version called NoXinput2 that turns off that library, and when I run it with that, it seems fine, and I was able to successfully complete the demo using Windows 7 emulation.

I should probably have been using the 1.4.x stable series of Wine instead of the 1.5.x development series, but I forgot and upgraded to the most recent version.  I might test the stable version and let you know how it goes.

So, sorry about the premature bug report.  I am happy to report that all seems fine, even using unstable development emulation, the game is a blast, and I'm really looking forward to... gosh, tomorrow already?

Anyways, thanks a bunch for being so awesome, Dave!
