Can't run in full screen mode or open winsetup

I recently purchased the disc version of Gemini Rue but am having two main problems with the game. Firstly, when I run the game it opens in windowed mode, with no option of full screen. After reading on several forums, I read that opening the winsetup file in the game's folder can be used to alter graphics options.
Upon running winsetup, I get the error message 'unable to run 'Gemini Rue.exe'. Make sure that the file is in the same directory as this Setup program'.
Are these known issues and is there a fix for them?
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit.

Hi Stedge. Hm! A problem that has never come up before, but let's see if we can fix it.

The only thing that I can think of is that the winsetup program is looking for the file "Gemini Rue.exe" and your EXE file was somehow named to something else. Is that the case?

My exe file was named 'GeminiRue' instead of 'Gemini Rue'. I have now changed this and can open winsetup, but am getting a bunch of other problems when I go to launch the game.

Have you tried using Winsetup to switch from Direct3D to DirectDraw? (or vice versa?)

Just tried switching between the two now.
Direct3D doesn't work at all for me and I can only get DirectDraw to work on 2x nearest neighbour filter.
When I run it on this it doesn't take up the full screen, however - there are large borders on all sides.

Is the "black borders on widescreen monitors" tickbox checked? If so, uncheck it.

The tickbox wasn't checked, no.
But just to compare I ticked it and ran the game - there was no difference in border size when I had the borders tickbox checked and when I had it unchecked.

I also downloaded the demo to see how that displayed, and that only took up the centre of the screen too, with huge borders on every side.

I've tried the game on both a new laptop and an oldish computer, with the same results.

Hm. Is "force alternate letterbox resolution" ticked? I admit AGS is not very flexible when it comes to monitor sizes.

Hmmm.

This definitely sounds like an engine issue and I'm afraid I don't know enough about it to give you a decent solution. Your best bet is to go to the AGS technical forum and ask there. They know more about the inner works of the engine than I do, and are probably better qualified to figure out what's wrong and why this is happening on your specific system. And once they do, it would be awesome if you could come back here and tell us what the solution is so we can help other people with this problem in the future.
