Ok, for the record, the demo ran fine under Wine here (like most AGS games).
I also ended up playing the Chapter 1 preview just after (the demo save files weren't loadable) as I didn't know that it had the exact same game parts as the demo ; I was fooled by the file sizes, since the Chapter 1 preview appears much bigger than the demo.
