Kelly crash bug - fixed!
« on: December 12, 2011, 01:12:08 PM »
Hello, just picked indie royale and started playing Legacy. When my conversation with punk roommate chick of the girl who commited suicide ended my game crashed with this error .
I'll try to download stand alone version and check if it will give me same error but it would be nice to play it on steam.

Oh and hello everyone on forum :)

Hi Nerka.  Can you verify if that happens every time? We did update the game for Steam, so downloading the standalone won't help.

Hi, tried it 5 times, always the same result. I tried turning speech off, then tried turning subtitles off, nothing helped. If you wish i can upload my save folder and you can check it by yourself (let me know your preffered upload service beforehand though).

Hi Nerka.  This is a stab in the dark.  Do you have an usual monitor size by any chance?  Try running it in windows mode and see if it works.

To change into windows mode, right click on the game in your Steam client, select "properties" -> Set launch options. Type "--setup" and click OK.  When you run the game, the setup window will pop up.  Try it again and let me know if it works.

Tried it in window mode (actually tried it before you sugested) and i've got same result :/
I downloaded stand alone version but as you said it pretty much crashed.
I think ill load last autosave and maybe try to do things in diffrent order. Talk to Kelly and then (if it wont crash) to Adrian maybe it will help (altough somehow i doubt it).
If it'll work i'll let you know. [EDIT] Well sadly it didnt :(

Heh weird stuff i've got so "pumped up" when i was playing, and i was so happy that i found game that suited my taste and now "bam, u can't play it!" :P

Aha! I think I narrowed down the problem.  Do you have the Tutorial on?  Try turning it off before doing that scene.

Is there a way to do it other than starting the game from the begining?

[EDIT] Actually nvm i started new game and fast clicked to that point... and... YES! that was the problem. Thank you for help!
Now i can get back and enhoy game in peace :D

PS I wont miss any "tips" right? Pretty much they all can be found in "HELP" section in options?

Yes. The only thing you'll miss is the game telling you how to combine clues, which you can learn about in the HELP section.  Sorry about this!  We're creating a fix right now. :)

No problem. Frankly i didnt expected such fast help ;)
It's good that it was encountered and fixed fast, fact that less people get stresssed about this and can enjoy the game fully is a good news in my book :)
Now if you'll excuse me i have a game to "devour" :D

Well it's not fixed yet!  We have to play through the game to make sure we didn't break anything first. :)  That will take some time and then we have to wait for Steam to implement the fix, so for anyone else who encountered this bug it is probably faster to just replay the game with tutorial mode off.  So sorry about this.

I bought this game ages ago but could never play it, I bought the bundle again today and it seems really promising. Unfortunately I ran into the same problem as nerka but with the difference being that I was playing the game with tutorial mode off from the start :-\

Hi C.B.

Was it the same error message?  Could you post a screenshot?

WOO!  I figured out the bug. :)

It's *actually* caused by opening up the notebook before you go to the dorm.  If you never opened up the notebook before the dorm, then this bug never happens.

For those interested in the technical side of things, looking at the notebook before the dorm increases the "tutorial count" by an extra number then it should have, so when it looks for the next tutorial message it crashes (whether tutorial mode is active or not).

So sorry that I released the game with this horrible bug, but I'm happy that I narrowed down on the issue.

Funny how you could test a game ad nasuem but never find the most obvious thing.

Anyway, as I said we are fixing it and retesting the game now.  Then we'll get an update to Steam sharpish and cross our fingers that they implement it right away.

Well done tracking it down, Dave. I'll start over without looking at the notebook, that is unless senility ensues.
