Wow, this one was hard. So hard, that I decided to create a second tier of winners. The top three winners will - as promised - get a speaking character based on them in the game. The three runners up will have background characters based on them.

Gemini Rue / Gemini Rue is now available on the APP STORE!

For the last eight months, Janet has been hard at work porting Gemini Rue to the iPad, iPhone, and iPad touch. The iOS version has been extensively optimized and overhauled for touch screen play with larger in-game icons and text, comfortable "point and tap" controls, a hotspot finder to minimize pixel hunting, and a redesigned combat system.

And it's $3.99 for the first two weeks!

This is our VERY first foray into the world of mobile, and the App Store in general. So we would really appreciate it if you could take a moment and rate the game for us. Things like ratings, reviews, and a clicking that "like" button can go a long way to make sure that this game is a success. And if it IS a success, it will help us get the rest of our games onto the App Store that much faster!

It's no secret that I'm working on it, so I figure it's time to give out the juicy details:

The story
A dead man's soul cries out against the force of a ferocious blizzard. He cries for help. He cries for answers. Then he screams as he is torn apart like damp tissue paper.

This wasn't the first time, and it won't be the last.

The police are powerless to stop it, so the duty falls to the only who can. What force could be so powerful - and so malevolent - that it would destroy the very core of a life in order to get what it wants?

Rosa Blackwell and Joey Mallone mean to find out, even if it means risking themselves in the process.

Sorry for all the spam, everyone. We're zapping them as quickly as we see 'em. Usually the level of spam increases right after a new release, but this time the spammers are a month late! It usually dies down. If it doesn't, we'll see about putting in some countermeasures.

The day is finally here! Primordia is now available

As usual, there are two purchase options for you. You can buy a physical version of the game - a DVD in hard snapcase - for $19.99 (includes worldwide shipping). OR you can buy a digital version of the game for $9.99 - with a 10% discount during the pre-order period!

But what, you may ask, about Steam? Well, unfortunately Valve has declined to take our game this time around. Instead, asking us to submit the game through their Project Greenlight system. So if you would like to play Primordia on Steam, please vote for it on Greenlight!

I can't keep up with all the threads in my own forum. :)

This is awesome because it means more people are enjoying and discussing our games, but it's also sad because I can't always respond to everything as quickly as I used to. I'm sorry about that. Still, it's nice to see this little place buzzing.

Subject says it all.  Dunno where all these spam posts are coming from.  I think it has to do with having our forum link on Steam.  We got a flurry of spam when Gemini Rue went up as well.  I check the forum often and I zap the spam posts as soon as I see them.  But if I miss any, please click on the "report to moderator" link at the bottom of the page.

I've changed the security question for registration, so hopefully that will help slow down the spammers! 


Gemini Rue / [Tech] Crash on reloading your steam game?

This was caused by the recent update.  As might know from the other "tech" thread on this forum, there was a big compatibility issue with Win 7 laptops.  We finally fixed it, but the downside of the fix is that it causes your savegame files to be incompatible.  This is an issue with the AGS engine (the engine we used to make the game) and a bit beyond our control.  If you are playing the game on Steam, you have a problem.  The automatic update system they have doesn't allow us to selectively choose who gets the update, so EVERYONE got the update, and so everyone will encounter this problem.  So... we're sorry about that.  It was a "damned if we did, damned if we didn't" sort of situation. 

The best solution is to distribute compatible savegames that work with the current version of the game that is now on Steam.

You can nab them here.

Just unzip them where-ever your savegame files are stored. By default it is either:

c:\program files\Steam\steamapps\common\gemini rue\Saves


c:\program files\Steam\steamapps\common\gemini rue\relists\Saves

This should hopefully cover everybody.  Sorry again for this problem!

It is with extreme pleasure that we announce our next affiliate game:

Dr. Eva Rosalene and Dr. Neil Watts have rather peculiar jobs:

They give people another chance to live. Literally.

There exists a technology that allows doctors to weave artificial memories, such that a patient can request attempts to alter their mind, and wake up with memories of things that didn't actually happen.

This particular story follows Dr. Rosalene and Dr. Watts' attempt to fulfill the wishes of a dying elderly man, Johnny. In their mission to do so, they traverse backwards through the man's memories, unfolding his curious life story before their eyes.

With each step back in time, a new fragment of Johnny's past is revealed. And as the two doctors piece together the puzzled events that spanned a life time, they seek to find out just why the frail old man chose his dying wish to be what it is.

And Johnny's last wish is, of course... to go to the moon.

The Blackwell series / Another question for the fans: Blackwell upgraded!

I've decided to go back and integrate all the previous Blackwell games to the current version of the AGS engine.  There are bunches of logistical issues, like  some programming commands used in Legacy not being compatible with the latest version of the engine (that dog leash plagues me yet again), but it's slowly coming together.

I'm doing this for two very important reasons.  Number one, the Steam integration plugin we made for Gemini Rue only works with the latest version of AGS.  Steam hasn't accepted Blackwell yet (we plan on pitching them again after this upgrade is done), but if they do, I wanna be ready.  Number two, if the AGS engine is ever ported to other platforms, it will be the most current version that's ported.  So again - if that happens, I want our stuff to be first in line.

So essentially, upgrading is a pre-emptive measure for potential Good Things in the future!

But since I'm mucking around in the code anyway, I figure I might as well make some improvements here and there.  So can anyone recommend any small improvements to the existing games?  Nothing big - I'm not going for a complete revamp or anything - but minor annoyances that got in your craw while playing them the first time.  Post 'em here or email them to me.
