Chit Chat! / Spamtastic
« on: January 22, 2013, 09:24:52 AM »
Sorry for all the spam, everyone. We're zapping them as quickly as we see 'em. Usually the level of spam increases right after a new release, but this time the spammers are a month late! It usually dies down. If it doesn't, we'll see about putting in some countermeasures.

Primordia / Primordia is now available!
« on: November 13, 2012, 01:20:07 PM »
The day is finally here! Primordia is now available

As usual, there are two purchase options for you. You can buy a physical version of the game - a DVD in hard snapcase - for $19.99 (includes worldwide shipping). OR you can buy a digital version of the game for $9.99 - with a 10% discount during the pre-order period!

But what, you may ask, about Steam? Well, unfortunately Valve has declined to take our game this time around. Instead, asking us to submit the game through their Project Greenlight system. So if you would like to play Primordia on Steam, please vote for it on Greenlight!

Chit Chat! / Fanart contest winners! (finally)
« on: July 11, 2012, 03:55:10 PM »
So, the results of this contest were stupidly delayed. I can only apologize for that. In any case, there were some great entries this time so lets get right to it!

These artists win a free physical boxed copy of Resonance

Dead like plant by Kathleen Brenowitz
Rosa and Joey relaxing at home. It's the little details I love in this one. Rosa looks so darn adorable.

In the void by Tara Abbamondi
Simple but evocative. It's the lighting on the characters that sells this one for me.

Highline Murder by Ian Samson
On the Highline. Ian told me with his submission that Jeremy was his favorite character.

This artist wins a boxed copy of the game, as well as a character based on them in the next Blackwell game:

Bears by Whimbrel
It was so hard to choose between these four, but in the end I had to go with the one that made me laugh like a maniac. Two teddy bears, from two different games, compare notes.

These artists win a free digital copy of the game:

Life's too Short by Danica Tomsho
Joey and Lisa, from Blackwell Deception

Azriel by Mary Grace Forjas
Azriel Odin, from Gemini Rue

Rosa and Joey Ludek Novonti
I don't know what these ghosts are doing, but they don't look happy

And that's all of them! If you won and don't hear from me, feel free to get in touch. Thanks again to everyone who entered!

Chit Chat! / So it's finally happened
« on: July 01, 2012, 08:00:23 AM »
I can't keep up with all the threads in my own forum. :)

This is awesome because it means more people are enjoying and discussing our games, but it's also sad because I can't always respond to everything as quickly as I used to. I'm sorry about that. Still, it's nice to see this little place buzzing.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, we are witnessing the impossible..."

Brain - the worst brawler in the history of the Wrestle Zone - has won the title belt! Not even his team-mates Simon and Defender can believe it. But when Brain gets kidnapped (along with the belt), it's up to them to get him back.

Street-fights, car chases, and obssessed fans all stand in the way of Brain's rescue. But as the reluctant heroes find themselves descending ever deeper into in the city's darkest corner, they learn that their problems are only just beginning...

Chit Chat! / So sorry about all the spam!
« on: January 14, 2012, 08:15:21 AM »
Subject says it all.  Dunno where all these spam posts are coming from.  I think it has to do with having our forum link on Steam.  We got a flurry of spam when Gemini Rue went up as well.  I check the forum often and I zap the spam posts as soon as I see them.  But if I miss any, please click on the "report to moderator" link at the bottom of the page.

I've changed the security question for registration, so hopefully that will help slow down the spammers!

Gemini Rue / [Tech] Crash on reloading your steam game?
« on: December 21, 2011, 08:00:34 AM »
This was caused by the recent update.  As might know from the other "tech" thread on this forum, there was a big compatibility issue with Win 7 laptops.  We finally fixed it, but the downside of the fix is that it causes your savegame files to be incompatible.  This is an issue with the AGS engine (the engine we used to make the game) and a bit beyond our control.  If you are playing the game on Steam, you have a problem.  The automatic update system they have doesn't allow us to selectively choose who gets the update, so EVERYONE got the update, and so everyone will encounter this problem.  So... we're sorry about that.  It was a "damned if we did, damned if we didn't" sort of situation.

The best solution is to distribute compatible savegames that work with the current version of the game that is now on Steam.

You can nab them here.

Just unzip them where-ever your savegame files are stored. By default it is either:

c:\program files\Steam\steamapps\common\gemini rue\Saves

c:\program files\Steam\steamapps\common\gemini rue\relists\Saves

This should hopefully cover everybody.  Sorry again for this problem!

Other Games / Hey, it's a new game! "To the Moon" is now available
« on: November 16, 2011, 05:49:59 PM »
It is with extreme pleasure that we announce our next affiliate game:

Dr. Eva Rosalene and Dr. Neil Watts have rather peculiar jobs:

They give people another chance to live. Literally.

There exists a technology that allows doctors to weave artificial memories, such that a patient can request attempts to alter their mind, and wake up with memories of things that didn't actually happen.

This particular story follows Dr. Rosalene and Dr. Watts' attempt to fulfill the wishes of a dying elderly man, Johnny. In their mission to do so, they traverse backwards through the man's memories, unfolding his curious life story before their eyes.

With each step back in time, a new fragment of Johnny's past is revealed. And as the two doctors piece together the puzzled events that spanned a life time, they seek to find out just why the frail old man chose his dying wish to be what it is.

And Johnny's last wish is, of course... to go to the moon.

Buy it here.

The Blackwell series / Another question for the fans: Blackwell upgraded!
« on: October 31, 2011, 11:36:26 AM »

I've decided to go back and integrate all the previous Blackwell games to the current version of the AGS engine.  There are bunches of logistical issues, like  some programming commands used in Legacy not being compatible with the latest version of the engine (that dog leash plagues me yet again), but it's slowly coming together.

I'm doing this for two very important reasons.  Number one, the Steam integration plugin we made for Gemini Rue only works with the latest version of AGS.  Steam hasn't accepted Blackwell yet (we plan on pitching them again after this upgrade is done), but if they do, I wanna be ready.  Number two, if the AGS engine is ever ported to other platforms, it will be the most current version that's ported.  So again - if that happens, I want our stuff to be first in line.

So essentially, upgrading is a pre-emptive measure for potential Good Things in the future!

But since I'm mucking around in the code anyway, I figure I might as well make some improvements here and there.  So can anyone recommend any small improvements to the existing games?  Nothing big - I'm not going for a complete revamp or anything - but minor annoyances that got in your craw while playing them the first time.  Post 'em here or email them to me.

Chit Chat! / Something cool is coming tomorrow
« on: October 25, 2011, 09:14:23 AM »
Something possibly involving pressurized water vapor.

Chit Chat! / Forum avatars!
« on: October 19, 2011, 05:09:31 PM »
This is something I've been meaning to add for ages, but it's always been low on my priority list.  Since I had a slow day (not much to do the week after a launch and nothing goes wrong!), I went ahead and made some forum avatars.  If you go to "Profile" and then "Account Profile" and then select "Choose avatar from gallery", you will see them.  There are avatars from Blackwell Legacy, Convergence, and Gemini Rue. Here are some examples:

If you like them, I'll add more of them!

Chit Chat! / Fanart contest - runners up!
« on: October 12, 2011, 10:37:11 AM »
And here are the three runners up!  These guys nab a free copy of the game's soundtrack:

"Ibi", by Senyee Lee
A simple but evocative sketch of Puzzle Bot Ibi swimming through the water.  It's always cool to see those tiny bots in close-up.

"Possessed Rosa", by Audrey Ryan
Audrey took one of the lines from the trailer and got inspired, drawing what appears to be a possessed Rosa.  Was she correct in her forecast?  You'll just have to play the game and find out. :p

"Blow and I'll come to you, my lad" by Eggie
This one is way too big to post in this forum, so I'll just leave the link above for you to click on.  I suggest that you do, because it's weird and brilliant.  It's a comic strip about Joey's one unique power. I've been following Eggie's (Alex Whittington's) work for several years.  His art might be a bit crude, but he never ceases to make me spit out my coffee in complete hysterics.

And that's it for the contest!  I'll be posting the rest of the entries in a few days.  As I said in the other post, I had such trouble choosing the winners this time around so I'm sorry if yours didn't make it.  But as always you still get a consolation prize.  If you don't hear from me in a few days, be sure and let me know.
