The Blackwell series / Blackwell Epiphany end game
« on: November 26, 2014, 09:13:23 PM »
So I've made it all the way to the end of the game. (spoilers if you haven't guessed by now) Madeline is on the roof, ready to rip herself apart, I have the chalk but I don't know where to draw the circle. I know the ground floor of the church doesn't work, and the only other place I can get to, Lafayette street, isn't far enough away, either. Where am I supposed to draw the circle to stop her?

Resonance / Japanese dialog
« on: June 21, 2012, 06:10:18 PM »
Being a casual otaku (assuming that's not an oxymoron), I appreciated the few words of Japanese provided courtesy of Reno, the mystery woman. I found that I could understand most of what she said (as the vocabulary is pretty simple) but there is one line I couldn't understand.

For those curious, here is a translation of her lines. They are spoiler-free, seeing as I am leaving out the context, and they are short sentences at that:

konnichiwa: Greetings (specifically, good afternoon)
Chotto matteokudasai: Wait a moment, please
Yamero: Stop; knock it off

The line I didn't understand was her last line, something like "hadashi wa XXX". I can't remember exactly, since I didn't write it down when I was playing through. If anyone remembers the line, and knows the translation, please let me know. I'm curious what she's saying.

Chit Chat! / Blackwell plug

Dunno if you saw this, but last week on X-Play, the latest Blackwell game was given a recommendation as a point-and-click game, praised for its good story. Hopefully a bit of good press will spread the word and increase your profile!

Other Games / Cute game!
« on: June 06, 2010, 10:35:59 PM »
I just downloaded the demo of the game from Big Fish games (out today), and I have to say that the game is quite cute. The puzzles are actually pretty easy to solve, after a little bit of experimenting. I got all the way to the castle stage before the hour was up, and even then, I got up to the catapult part.

And now, some feedback:
1. Is there a bonus item in every stage? If so, is there a way to go back and get items you missed in a previous stage after beating the game, or would you need to restart.

2. The tabs at the bottom were a nice touch, but they obscured the screen a little bit. On the boat stage, I dropped the wrapper behind the Ibi tab, and almost couldn't pick it up again. Luckily, that wasn't a problem, but it had potential to make things worse.

3. I sort of remember in the previews leading up to the game that there were going to be voices for the robots. In the game, though, they're all digitally beeping to one another. Why the change?

4. The only puzzle I really found challenging was the Ultrabot fish. It wasn't so much that I couldn't figure out what I needed to do, but how to manipulate the item properly. I don't know if there's a second puzzle like that in the game, but a demo would've been helpful in the training stages. Especially as the hint for that area was useless to that problem.

That game is great otherwise. I'm just about to buy it, so I'll be able to give more info later on the other parts. None of the things above are really big problems, but hopefully it'll provide helpful information for future games. :)

ps. LOVE the sad Yuriko.

Chit Chat! / 2nd Playfirst game update?
« on: March 12, 2010, 11:00:16 PM »
I remember in the news posts a while back, back when Convergence was first released, that it mentioned Dave working on a second adventure game for Playfirst. I know PuzzleBots is getting the focus right now, and I assume it's close to completion, but I was curious what the status of this second super-secret project is.

I realize that with confidentiality agreements, very little can be revealed before Playfirst gives the say-so, but I'm just curious what's going on.

Chit Chat! / Blackwell Wiki page
« on: July 27, 2009, 07:57:36 PM »
I was just surfing the net, searching random stuff on Google, and I came across the Blackwell Series page. Noting that it lacked the synopsis of Convergence, I tried to rectify that. However, since I haven't yet finished the game, I don't know if my edit is 100% accurate (plus I shamelessly plagarised part from the page here). If someone could just look it over to varify the facts and/or bookmark the quotation appropriately, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Chit Chat! / Cubicle Decorating Tips
« on: April 15, 2009, 06:46:13 PM »
While I have no experience decorating cubicles or desks, I know that a standard step is to have pictures of family members and/or loved ones near you. In your case, perhaps screenshots of your favourite characters?

A computer takes up a lot of space, if you don't already have one in place. Considering your line of work, that should be pretty essential.

Finally, if you have any paperwork, scattering that across the top of your desk makes you seem busy, if unorganized. Blank paper can give the same effect if people don't look too closely.

Emerald City Confidential / ECC on Big Fish (and others, probably)
« on: March 23, 2009, 11:46:27 AM »
Just letting everyone know, if they've been waiting like I have, that ECC with be the game of the day tomorrow on Big Fish. That means if you have an account, you can play it now.

Emerald City Confidential / Initial reactions to the game (minor spoiler)
« on: February 24, 2009, 08:44:45 PM »
Prefix: I have not purchased the game yet, but I have played out the trial a bit. This is just my reaction to the plot so far.

First off, the graphics are definitely beautiful. Even better than the Blackwell games, if I might be so bold. Definitely quality work, and I'll enjoy exploring it further later.

Second, I like the medal system. It's pretty innovative in a way. And it's an easy way to tell your progress in the game. I knew as soon as the medal-colour changed, that I was in a new chapter. I also noticed the tab at the beginning allowing the medals to be reviewed. I don't know what that can do, but it can be a sort of bookmark for how far in you can get.

Third, the buttons. I think that's an interesting way to have collections out there that are completely optional. I'm half-way surprised it didn't have your standard commentary running through it, but I suppose the sketches add that personal touch.

Speaking of the commentary, I will make my one discussion of plot points here. Those who wish to avoid spoilers, look away now.

Still reading? You've been warned.
The bottle of Green Liquid. It reminded me of something you said in the Blackwell Legacy commentary. Couldn't think of another way to make certain Petra had it going into the dungeon?

Otherwise, bang up job so far. The puzzles haven't been bang-your-head-against-the-wall tough, but offer a nice challenge and a decent chunk of Ozian lore. I actually read the first Oz book after learning that Emerald City Confidential was being released, just to see how it varied from the movie. I'm having fun checking out all the colours, including the Scarecrow and Ozma in white dresses...

The Blackwell series / Commentary 'contest'
« on: March 22, 2008, 12:31:15 AM »
So I was wondering... has anyone located the mysterious source of The Deacon and The Countess? I'm curious and trying to find the source, but it turns out that, like Rosa said, Deacon is just too common a word to google. :p So, I'm curious if any other ghost hunters out there have had any luck, or even have a clue.
