Ohh... I can't say I've ever faced those to be honest. That's not really a puzzle though, is it? I mean, there's no logical process to be understood or figured out... There's nothing to "solve". It's a "hidden object game" as Dave put it.

I mean, yeah, it's popular, but so are Twilight, the Transformers movies, Call of Duty games and Justin Bieber, none of which I'd ever ascribe the word "quality" to.

Unless perhaps preceded by the word "no" or synonyms.

But seriously, what do you mean "find words"? Word salad? Decryption? Finding a password? There are all kinds of puzzles involving words, really... I find that it's less the type of puzzle, and more the logic and execution behind it that matter.

For instances, I still remember a certain puzzle in a certain game (don't remember the name to be honest) I've played a long time ago that revolved around finding a password. It seems so stupid and arbitrary, till I understood it, and suddenly realized it was brilliant. The password was staring at your face the entire time, you just had to understand the hint.

On the other hand Broken Sword (an otherwise excellent, and iconic, game) had a completely asinine puzzle surrounding a secret message and code decryption, that wasn't as much hard to figure out as much as it was boring and time consuming to execute. A feeling that was only exacerbated by them forcing you to repeat the puzzle again later in the game, but with a much harder message... At that point you already figured out the logic inherent to the puzzle. You have to, because you need to complete the same puzzle earlier in order to get there. It's the same fucking puzzle. You basically just have to grind out possible combinations of vowels and consonants till the message makes sense...

Those can fuck off and die in the darkest of pits.

I say it's more execution and logic than actual "shape" of the puzzle.

As someone who tested the game, I can tell you it's quite a funny game, especially if you're a fan of adventure games and wrestling. Several parts had me literally laughing out loud.

LiK Chan, I presume?  Welcome to the forum!

I'm working on it. :)  It's in the nebulous design stage right now, which means it's out there but I have no idea what shape it'll take yet.  But once I have more information I'll definitely share it.
Hopefully it will take the shape of an adventure game.

Or a sphere. I love spheres. Although not in the shape of an eyeball please. I have phobias relating to eyeballs.

or maybe it's a FMV game! OMG! :P

Next Blackwell game is a rail shooter. You heard it here first folks!

I loved Legacy. I loved enough to hook me into the series. But it IS the weakest. Dave can correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think Legacy was Dave's first commercial release, and is about 5 years old. The series has gotten progressively better in pretty much every area with every release.

And, since you only played Legacy, maybe that "what should we do next" dialog option isn't available yet, don't remember exactly.

I don't enjoy pixel hunting or performing tedious backtracking to exhaust all options until I get that one trigger that allows me to proceed.  Sometimes there's something that makes sense and should just work, but because I missed that one thing the developer thinks is necessary for it to make logical game sense, I have to hunt and hunt or hope a walkthrough covers it (and with smaller games like this, there's always oversights in walkthroughs).  Othertimes, I think I've encountered a glitch, but it turns out that it's just lack of direction that made it look that way.

As someone who was extensively frustrated by "moon logic" puzzles, I can tell you this doesn't happen in Blackwell. Except for maybe one or two situations in the entire series, all the puzzles are perfectly logical, and things that "should work" and don't are at least given a reason as to why.

That said, these ARE adventure games... As good as the story might be, it shares the spotlight with the puzzles. Seems a bit counter productive to play a game when you don't want to play a game. I mean, if I only want a story I read a book or watch a movie.

And there IS an in-game "hint" system. If you talk to Joey/Rosa and ask them "What should we do next" / "what's the plan" / "What's our next move" (forgot the exact wording), they'll point you towards the next thing to do.

Getting way off topic here, but I looove Assassin's Creed.  Even the not-as-good-but-still-pretty-good AC Revelations.   I got the impression that Desmond was living entire lifetimes within the Animus, but only an hour or two passed in the real world. 

Interesting story.  Thomas Regin (Blackwell composer) introduced me to Jesper Kyd (Assassin's Creed composer) at the Game Developer Conference a few years ago.  I didn't realize who he was at the time, but I was retroactively psyched to meet him once I did. :)

Haven't had the chance to play either Brotherhood (let alone revelations) Revelations, due to economic issues :P, but I'm a huge fan of the first two games. I can spend hours just running around rooftops.

Well, the way Dave has framed the picture as of Deception, there's room for virtually unlimited Blackwell games. It's a bit like Assassin's Creed.

There's no real reason for Joey to have to start "haunting" Patricia as soon as he died. I'm sure he mentioned in Deception that he basically just "woke up one day and it felt right". Who knows how long it passed since his death to his "ghosting" of Patricia.

Everything else about Joey seems consistent with him being alive/dying in the 30s or 40s. My guess is that his "sacrifice" was either literal - He fought someone, or some gang, to his death, tragic hero, so his friend could get away, or more metaphorical - World War II.

I'm wondering if you will consider doing any sci-fi based games in the future?

I for one would welcome more sci-fi. I miss the days of yore when space and the future were a much more dominant theme in gaming, not to say in culture in general.

I have so many ideas too, sadly, not enough skill/resources to make them happen.

I know I'm pushing it, but I absolutely love OSTs, and Thomas' music is, once again, pretty damn good. Maybe consider it a promotional thing? :D

Heya. Yes, with the latest update the save games were broken. Unfortunate side effect of the AGS engine :<

Dave mentioned somewhere in the forums he might be working on some save files for people to use as replacements.

It's unfortunate, but it's one of the side effects of the AGS engine. Not much Dave can do about it himself.

Hi,

Does this mean that my newly downloaded Steam versions (bought the bundle) will be updated at some point with the updated versions? I notice on some youtube videos the text in Legacy is higher resolution than what I am currently playing in. The default resolution seems to be 320x240 whereas I've read that it is 640x480 for others (i could be wrong of course).

If I understand this correctly the version you're playing on Steam now IS the updated version.

I don't know about Steam versions, but in most AGS games you can find the winsetup in the game's folder, and use it to configure resolutions and such. Just remember that that's AGS, and not necessarily Blackwell... So remember where everything you change is by default, because some things may not work properly.
