Cool place to live!

Update: Finally received the lost pics too!
I THINK this is the crimescene, all thought it's very different from the pic John posted on his website but I guess New York changes a bit faster than my hometown :)

My photo:

From Johns website: (not mine!)

Thanks for this thread! Helped me greatly in my own attempt to pull off a similar (but a bit updated) tour :) I posted my guide and pics on my blog

PS. I wanted to try that gnocci at Cafe Pick me Up but seems that place is closed permanently :(

Lol interesting coincidence I too added Tomo to an ad billboard I was texturing, it never crossed my mind to me to ask for permission tho. ;)

You should probably try asking on an game-development forum, but anyway I'll try to answer:

The pitch depends on who you are pitching to, if you're talking about pro companies I can't imagine how that would even be possible, I used to work professionally for a games company and EVEN I as a senior developer couldn't pitch an idea to my own company because the leads are too arrogant to give me 5 minutes to tell my idea, so I can't imagine how an outsider would do it.

As for pitching to normal developers: art! inspiring art is great to get programmers interested.
so either learn art, or as step 1 try to get one great artist on board, after you got the art you can convince others much more easily.

Chit Chat! / Re: Where will VO go from here?

aha! thanks.

I didn't know there was THAT much you could really do with a VO after it's already been recorded, shows what I know! ;)

If I remember correctly Dave mentioned something in the Resonance commentary how he will change the VO equipment for next game, would be curious to know more about that.

I think the problem he mentioned was so that the actors could occasionally raise their voice into the mic without cap, not sure how he plans to fix that.

Personally I found that I had to turn off my sub-woofer when playing Resonance, because every time someone said a word with the letter 'p' my sub really popped, but looking at the youtube VO clip it looks like they are using a high quality metal pop-filter so I'm not sure why it's doing that.
Perhaps pro audio-guys has that problem too only they cut away the low-end, idunno..

Anyway reason I'm wondering is because I'm tempted to get a Blue Yeti myself.

Localization for games is very easy... until you realize that for ADVENTURE-GAMES the slightest error in translation can result in a puzzle getting 10x more difficult, or if the translator DOES know about the puzzle-design it can result in him spelling the puzzle out too literally completely ruining the puzzle,
all the while the developer will have very little way of knowing this :)

I would be very curious to know why the Geminie Rue translation didn't make a profit tho. :S I'm guessing the company must have really punked WE on the contract somehow,

Chit Chat! / Re: How do you make the trailers?

Awesome answer, thanks!

Exactly! showing gameplay-footage is about as cinematic as THIS: http://penny-arcade.com/comic/2010/10/04 :P

Btw it must have been really tempting to use the ending scene of Resonance, no spoilers; just want to say I was quite shocked how climatic it was! I bet Chris Jones never quite had that in mind when he first started making the engine! :D

Chit Chat! / How do you make the trailers?
« on: July 24, 2012, 04:48:13 AM »
I've always enjoyed watching WE trailers because I really like the attempt at turning something as anti-climatic as a slow adventure-game into a cinematic-looking trailer;
the result hasn't been particularly cinematic, but I enjoy watching the attempts.

But more recently I'm finding with Geminie Rue and especially with Resonance that the trailers are getting really cinematic, so I'm really curious about that.

Is it Dave who makes the trailers or each individual developer?
Have you any tips to share that you've learned in making these?
Is the music from the games, specially composed for the trailer or licensed stock-music?

Resonance / Re: (spoilers) Complete list of foreshadowing:

I just remembered yet another one:
In the hospital after the scientists death Ed reacts excessively cry-baby when he says he's sorry about the death, at the time I thought he was just a total cry-baby, now I realized his reaction wasn't an over-reaction at all; he had just committed his first MURDER and had to witness the victims daughter mourning the death, knowing that information makes his reaction sensible.

if you log into the avorta computer terminal as 'dcage' all the mails are about hair regrowth and a mailing list for "stupid endings", wonder who that can be?

Another thing that sort of adds up to Ed's motives, is the inner monologue he does if you use him to solve Morales' Journal during the magnet puzzle. It reveals Ed has been suspecting that Morales had been hiding things from him, and that Ed thinks he deserved more after all the work he's done for Morales.
Cool, I didn't know of that one!

Which reminds me of YET another one:
*Ed said he had a metal shoulder which is why he should carry Bennet's gun in the big magnet puzzle, that sounded like an excuse to get a hold of a gun.

(the more I think about this game the more I like it :D)
