Unavowed / Re: computer in wall street bedroom --- cannot type password!
« on: August 31, 2018, 11:28:15 PM »
Thank you for taking the time to provide some suggestions.

Unfortunately, the keyboard<-->computer connection is fine, and all software other than Unavowed has no difficulty with it.

Only Unavowed is failing, and it's not just the using-computer-ingame-scene, either.  Unavowed won't recognize typing in its "Save Game" feature, where you're supposed to be able to type in a name for your save.

So something's wrong with Unavowed or related software (drivers, etc).

Unavowed / computer in wall street bedroom --- cannot type password!

I get that the password is likely "griff" or some variant, but I can't get any text to be typed into the password box.  It's like the keyboard isn't being recognized at all.  I've been careful to click in text box before typing, to keep cursor in text box, etc.

This seems to be some sort of bug in the game.  Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Shardlight / lack of controls/settings
« on: August 22, 2016, 10:31:19 PM »
I just bought Shardlight and began to play it.  Many things about it seem quite good and I hope to enjoy it.

I want to thank you for preventing me from adjusting the levels of the music, the background noises, and the voices.

Your choice to minimize convenience for players puzzles me.  It's been a while since I last dealt with tailoring the experience of a Wadjet Eye game, but I do seem to recall a larger set of options which were useful.  I find Shardlight's minimalist approach to configuration, particularly in relation to audio, a needless annoyance.  I really can't imagine what you gained from it, so there's nothing to weigh against the absence of a a convenience.

I've definitely done *everything* there could be to do with conversation and trying objects with every character.  Not so much fun.  And yes, I bought the game prior to xmas.  So I'm glad to hear there's a fix for it.  What do I need to do to move forward from this point?  You mention updating; what does that require me to do?  Thanks for your help.

I've gotten to the point where the next thing to do is to get the pendant from the old lady's room while Madison is out to dinner (this according to spoilers and the fact that it seems I've done everything else possible, even according to the spoilers).  But all that happens upon entering apartment is that Rosa and Madison have brief interaction that allows no conversation choices and just leads to Rosa leaving and the "opportunity" to have Joey enter.  Did that, lurked around, saw pendant.  Now what?  What's the missing action that needs doing to get the game to advance to where that apartment will be empty?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I agree with your position.  This is an aspect of the game which I had not expected from Dave after buying his earlier games.  I believe that the PlayFirst arrangement is beneficial to him in a business sense, but it may not be so for his body of work.  Unless, of course, his concern is only (rather than primarily) the money, which I think is unlikely.

That does bring up a central aspect of your posting, though: unless you're one of the gnomes who write "reviews" of games for online or printed game-related publications, you've already "supported" the game to the fullest extent possible: you gave PlayFirst money for it.  Nothing else you do will reach a wide enough audience of potential PlayFirst customers to matter (remember, anyone reading this is almost certainly already on one side or the other of the PlayFirst/customer interaction).

So there's your support, all of it, right there: your money.  And they've got it.  That's blunt, but I certainly don't mean it as a rebuttal of your posting.  As I said, I agree with your position.  It's just that...well, it's too late for that position by the time you hand over the cash, unless you somehow get it back.

Emerald City Confidential / Re: Turning off the text??

Be careful what you ask for --- you might get it.

I wanted this feature, too, until I found out that not all text gets spoken (see thread on Bugs board).
