Chit Chat! / Re: About the resolution of the games.
« on: June 06, 2016, 05:10:12 AM »
I think there's a certain charm in the 320x200 resolution when done right.
I can understand you'd want to take advantage of modern technology and resolutions. But that also drives up the production costs by ALOT. Consider painting a beautiful image at 320x200 compared to 1280x720 - there's room for much more details in the latter - and details take a lot of time and in turn the costs go up. Since adventure games are a niche genre making games in a higher resolution would make each game a higher risk project. I'd prefer Wadjet Eye keep going rather than risking it all on one project and somewhat fail due to not selling enough to make the money back in the first year.

However I think you'll be happy to hear that David Gilbert has upped his resolution on his new game Unavowed - the pixels will be visible, but to a smaller extent.

As a sidenote - I'm also working on a game with a hd resolution - but I'm highly sceptical that it will be worth (monetary) the time spent in production when I release it. It's ok however as I'm doing it as a hobby so far on the side of a full time job - but once you run a company and try to live off from it - it's a whole new deal.

I see they are coming out with a game similar to Primordia called Trench Mouth, Looks awesome  8)

http://www.wormwoodstudios.com/

I saw Trench Mouth from a post by Victor Pflug on the ags forums and it does indeed look really good - as does all of Victors art. Will be exciting to see what comes out of that. :)
Fallen Gods looks good as well.

Thank you Mark for your reply. And apologies for my late one.

As you said it's tough to balance puzzles in adventure games. Too much signposting and you risk making it feel like the game slaps the solution in the face - and too little signposting and the solution might come of as frustrating or obscure. Overall you guys did a great job on that part still. The problem with the Kiosk from my perspective wasn't that it didn't feel unfair after I got it solved (with help from google) - the main problem from my perspective was that the game didn't really prepare you for the required kind of thinking very well. That and it involved quite a lot of steps to go through it all. It still is a cool puzzle though that I like a lot in concept.

Thanks for the link to Fallen. I will go through it now after I played the game.

Really looking forward to what Wormwood Studios will do next.

Primordia / Primorida!

I've been curious to explore Primordia but didn't get the time to dig into it until now. It was overall a great experience.

The puzzles felt fair for the most part. Only the oily rag and terminal riddles got me truly stuck in the game. Apart from these two the team did a stellar job all the way though in every other aspect making it one of the best adventure games I've played - right up there with favorites from Lucas Arts golden age.

Wormwood Studios, please expand upon this universe!

Thanks for the replies Miranda and Dave. Glad to hear that it made some money. That means you'll continue to develop and publish good games. :) Shardlight looks stunning as well as an offtopic not meant to steal Technobabylons spotlight.

Technobabylon / Did this game break even?

Despite positive reviews and a 97% userscore on Steam the game only has 4818 owners on Steamspy.com.

In my world - this must be wrong. The game got positive reviews and looks pretty darn good - I haven't compleated it yet but as far as I've gotten things seeem just plain unfair as I think the developers as well as the publisher deserves more from this gem.

Are your screen setting running at 32 bit? If it's running at 16 bit that might cause a problem.
